Link up to three local accounts. The primary account should be an RMB settlement account, and the two supplementary accounts can be either RMB or foreign currency accounts. You can change the supplementary accounts whenever you want according to your needs.

  • Proof of residential address (and permanent address if different)

3. The debit card and PIN will be given to you once the application is successfully completed.

3. Your debit card will be sent to the correspondence address held by the bank within approximately 10 working days (subject to postal delivery time) after your application.

4. Please bring your debit card, card mailer and valid identification document (original) to the same branch where you applied for your debit card to collect your PIN.

Important security tips

When you receive your debit card / personal identification number (PIN):

  • The debit card and PIN will not be sent together. Please check if the card and PIN packages are intact. Should either package be open or broken, do not use it. Instead contact the HSBC China 24-hour customer service hotline or staff of HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited ("the Bank") immediately. If the card and PIN packages are sealed and intact, please check the cardholder’s name printed on it. If the name is incorrect, please do not use the card/PIN and instead contact the HSBC China 24-hour customer service hotline or the Bank immediately:

  • Please confirm the cardholder’s name on the debit card. If the name is incorrect, please do not use the card. Instead contact the HSBC China 24-hour customer service hotline immediately. If the name is correct, please sign the back of the card immediately (with the same signature as in your debit card application form) and keep your card in a safe place
  • Please change your PIN immediately at an HSBC China ATM and destroy the original PIN letter

Disclosure of your PIN will put you at great risk.

  • Make sure nobody sees you entering your PIN when you are changing it at an ATM
  • Do not use your ID card number, birthday, telephone number or commonly used sequences (eg 888888, 123456, 000000, etc.) as your PIN
  • Memorise your PIN and keep it confidential
  • Do not write your PIN down. If you have to do it, please keep the note separate from your debit card
  • Change your PIN regularly
  • Do not share your PIN with anyone, including HSBC employees

Keep your debit card in a safe place. If your card is lost, stolen or counterfeited, please contact any HSBC China branch immediately, or call:

How to use ATMs safely

  • Cover the keypad while entering your PIN

  • Count your cash only in secure surroundings
  • Please keep receipts for your own records and do not leave receipts at or near the machine

Security tips for UnionPay online payment

  • The mobile number used for UnionPay online payment needs to be the same as the registered number for SMS messages from HSBC China. This service is currently not available for those with foreign mobile phone numbers
  • Customers are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of personal information such as their debit card number, PIN, identification documents, mobile phone number and related information (including any one-time passwords via SMS message).  Customers are also responsible for any potential risk and/or loss due to intentional and/or negligent actions, including but not limited to failure to maintain the confidentiality of any of the information listed above

Choose your preferred payment method

 

You can choose from two payment methods via UnionPay online payment:

 

 

1.  Authorised payment

  • Choose UnionPay online payment after selecting your merchants.
  • Fill in the card number and PIN of your HSBC China Debit Card, along with the mobile number you have previously registered at HSBC.
  • After verification is complete, a randomly generated one-time password will be sent to your mobile phone.
  • Fill in the one-time password you have just received.
  • The payment process will be completed after the successful verification of all the purchase information and the one-time password.

 

2.  Express payment

  • Register on the UnionPay online payment website and link your HSBC China Debit Card by filling the card number, PIN and mobile phone number you have previously registered with HSBC.
  • After verification is complete, a randomly generated one-time password will be sent to your mobile phone.
  • Fill in the one-time password you have just received.
  • The debit card is linked to your online payment account after the successful verification of all the key purchase-related information and the one-time password.
  • You can now use your registered user ID and log on password for UnionPay during online payment (the log on password can be different from the debit card PIN).

 

Safe online payment limit

An online payment limit is set to the debit card in order to protect you from potential threats or losses. By default, we apply a single payment limit of RMB 3,000 and a daily limit of RMB 10,000. You can apply to reset or adjust the limits based on your debit card usage and attitude to risk.

HSBC Debit Card now supports Apple Pay

HSBC Bank (China) Co., Ltd. provides a new mobile payment solution for HSBC China debit card holders to support Apple Pay services enabling secure and fast payments.

Customers holding HSBC China debit cards with the China UnionPay logo can apply for Apple Pay by simply adding their debit card information to their mobile device (such as iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad) that supports Apple Pay. HSBC card holders can complete payments with their mobile devices for either offline payment or APP online payment without using physical cards.

Get started by adding debit card for Apple Pay

  1. Using the iPhone display as an example, open the Wallet application, tap the "+" icon in the upper right corner, and follow the instructions to add the HSBC China Debit Card.
  2. The SMS verification code is sent to your registered mobile phone number and the Apple Pay service will be enabled after successful activation.
  3. Set your HSBC China debit card as the default payment card, hold down the card and slide it to the bottom of the screen.
